New security architecture in our region is impossible without Belarus, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said at the general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, BelTA has learned.
“A strong organization [the UN] would not have allowed Ukraine to fight today to the ‘last Ukrainian’ to please transnational capital and the collective West. If everyone, like neighboring Belarus, realized what is really happening in the conflict zone and what risks it poses, and really wanted to stop the bloody confrontation between the two brotherly peoples, Ukraine would have long ago faced Russia not on the battlefield, but at the table of peaceful negotiations. In this context, initiatives like the Brazil-China peace plan are very timely. However, no project will succeed without Russia's participation. No new security architecture in our region is possible without the participation of Belarus,” the minister said.
He stated that NATO continues its military build-up on the western borders of Belarus. These are tens of thousands of soldiers and thousands of vehicles. “We seriously fear that this ‘game’ may get out of control and lead to the escalation of the conflict on a regional and even global scale with catastrophic consequences for all. There are enough nuclear weapons in Europe. Therefore, an escalation of tension is a direct path to World War III,” the minister warned.
He recalled that 10 years ago Minsk hosted the negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Belarus is still offering its peacekeeping efforts. “For we know and understand both Russians and Ukrainians better than anyone else. We will do everything in our power to achieve peace on the long-suffering Ukrainian land. We are most interested in this,” Maksim Ryzhenkov emphasized.
