Prezydent Białorusi Alaksandr Łukaszenka odwiedził z oficjalną wizytą Ukrainę. Podstawowym celem wizyty był udział w II Forum Regionów Białorusi i Ukrainy w Żytomierzu. Na lotnisku głowę białoruskiego państwa spotkał osobiście Prezydent Ukrainy Wołodymyr Zełenski. Po serdecznym przywitaniu Prezydenci Ukrainy i Białorusi udali się z lotniska na negocjacje, pojechali jednym samochodem. Wołodymyr Zełenski rozpoczął oficjalne spotkanie słowami: „Witajcie, przyjaciele!” – po rosyjsku. Następnie przeszedł na ukraiński, zauważając, że i tak wszyscy się śwetnie rozumieją. „Nasi ludzie są przyjaźni, mentalnie absolutnie bliscy. Jestem dumny, że mamy tak dobre stosunki i sąsiadów”, - podkreślił Prezydent Ukrainy. Z kolei Aleksander Łukaszenka podziękował Prezydentowi Ukrainy w imieniu całej delegacji białoruskiej za przyjęcie, zauważając, że do Żytomierza przybyło prawie pięćset osób.
- Omówiliśmy produkty naftowe, przetwarzanie ropy naftowej, alternatywne drogi dostaw ropy, wspólne rynki, zakłady, kapitały, kwestie energetyczne po uruchomieniu Białoruskiej Elektrowni Atmowej, nie powiem o cenie, że się umówiliśmy jak i gdzie będziemy sprzedawali. Wiele kwestii. Jedyne, co proszę mi wybaczyć panie Prezydencie, przecież mam doświadczenie rozmów z innymi prezydentami, więc jeżeli się umówiliśmy, to trzeba nam zrobić. Nie trzeba czegoś udawać, lecz warto powiedzieć szczerze, że to na przykład na razie nas nie interesuje, a tego na przykład nie uczynimy, nie zrobimy. Lecz jeżeli postanowiliśmy pogłębić dno na Prypeci i na Dnieprze, więc trzeba pogłębić, jak powiedział Prezydent Ukrainy i portach rzecznych, łączących Białoruś i Ukrainę, chociaż i niebogate, proste, lecz powstaną na całej długości, by była trasa wodna od Finlandii, E 40, trasa międzynarodowa, do Odesy, do morza Czarnego, będzie to dla nas wygodne.
W swoją kolej Prezydent Ukrainy Wołodymyr Zełenski odznaczył, że dwustronne spotkanie Prezydentów Białorusi i Ukrainy było bardzo ciepłe.
- Bardzo mi miło jest osobiście pana poznać. Jak mi się wydaje, że rozmowa była ciepłą, ludzką. Ja jako człowiek to cenię najwięcej. Więc kiedy rozmawialiśmy, to nie chcieliśmy, by rozmowa się kończyła. Mi się wydaje, jeżeli między Prezydentami, jeżeli każdy z nich nie chce skończyć rozmowy, to i stosunki między tymi krajami, a najważniejsze między tymi narodami będą tylko lepsze, tylko cieplejsze na długie lata. Chcę podziękować za wszystko, co Białoruś czyni dla Ukrainy z przyczyny naszej tragicznej wojny na Donbasie. Za to, że Białoruś naprawdę zawsze broni Ukrainy, jej suwerenności i integralności terytorialnej. Dziękuję bardzo.
