On 14 January, Belarusian Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Khodzhayev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ashok Kumar to discuss new opportunities for cooperation, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry.
During the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in exploring new opportunities for joint work in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and medical education. They noted the significant potential for joint projects, including increasing the supply of medicines, organizing medical exchanges, and participating in international specialized exhibitions.
According to Aleksandr Khodzhayev, interaction can be intensified in a number of areas. "Belarus is interested in the development of the pharmaceutical market, therefore the topic of discussion should concern both distribution and localization. The heads of our states attach great importance to the development of cooperation in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. At a meeting with you, our president emphasized that the issue of cooperation between Belarus and India is very relevant now and is under special control, so we have something to strive for and there are areas where we can increase cooperation," the minister said, addressing the ambassador.
Following the meeting, the minister stressed that all proposals of the ambassador will be worked out, including organizing meals for students from India in the canteens of medical universities, taking into account their preferences.
Belarus is actively developing cooperation with India. A total of 694 Indian citizens study at Belarusian medical universities. Most of them study at Belarusian State Medical University (253) and Grodno State Medical University (194). More than 3,000 Indian citizens receive medical care in Belarus annually. In 2025, the participants of the Belpharmprom holding purchased 91 items of pharmaceutical substances and excipients produced in India.
