亚洲基础设施投资银行成立于2014年，并于2016年1月开始运营。其主要目标是克服亚洲及其他地区经济发展的基础设施限制。授权资本为1000亿美元，分为100万股，每股面值10万美元。银行的成员国数量和申请入境的成员国数量已达到100个。区域股东拥有75％的资本，而非地区股东拥有25％的合并份额。
该银行的最大股东是中国、印度和俄罗斯，分别占29.78％，8.37％和6.54％的股份。自2019年1月17日以来，白俄罗斯一直是该银行的非区域成员。 在2019年至2021年期间，该银行为64个项目制定了90亿美元的融资计划。对于非区域成员，到2021年，提供了约15％的项目融资总额。
