Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in the Russian Federation on a working visit, BelTA reports.
At Pulkovo airport the Belarusian president was greeted by Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov and Governor of Leningrad Oblast Alexander Drozdenko.
On 25 December, the head of state will take part in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St Petersburg. The agenda of the summit includes more than two dozen items, which, among other things, relate to key areas for the further development of integration processes in the EAEU, international activities, macroeconomic policy, work to remove barriers, reduce exemptions and restrictions in the EAEU internal market.
Also among the important issues on the agenda are the chairman and membership of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the chairmanship in the EAEU. In accordance with the EAEU Treaty, the chairmanship is carried out on a rotational basis in the order of the Russian alphabet. Accordingly, the chairmanship after Russia should pass to Armenia this year. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also went to St. Petersburg.
Plans are in place to sign a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and its member states, on the one hand, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the other hand. The agreement will help to significantly improve the competitiveness of goods of the EAEU member states and thereby increase exports to Iran. The document as a whole will contribute to the growth of trade, cooperation and investment.
On 26 December, Aleksandr Lukashenko will take part in an informal meeting of CIS leaders.
Announcing the event in late November, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev said: “Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited his counterparts to St. Petersburg on 26 December to communicate in an informal setting, discuss topical issues, and exchange views. All these meetings and discussions are aimed at further preservation and strengthening of the CIS. This is a common desire, a common goal - not only to preserve the CIS, but also to improve its activities, to increase its efficiency.”

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
