CIS adopts statements on Eurasian security, inadmissibility of unilateral sanctions

The CIS foreign ministers adopted the joint statements on the principles of ensuring Eurasian security and the inadmissibility of unilateral sanctions at a meeting in Moscow in the run-up to the CIS summit, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov took part in the event. He noted that despite some differences in positions on a number of issues, the discussion showed that the heads of delegations can find some compromise solutions and listen to each other.

"It is important to preserve the spirit and cohesion of our organization. Although, of course, all this was not easy, and I will leave some things out of the equation. But the very atmosphere of the negotiations and the general spirit were friendly, partnership-like. Indeed, there were differences in terms of certain positions. This can be seen in certain final documents. I mean the reservations and dissenting opinion on the final documents. Although, in general, I am very glad that all the documents were considered, all decisions were made," the Foreign Minister said.

For Belarus, according to him, the joint statement on the inadmissibility of unilateral sanctions in international relations is of particular interest. "Belarus and Russia's idea has found support from our partners," the minister said.

He noted the importance of the joint statement on the basic principles of cooperation in ensuring security in Eurasia. "This is also an important document. This topic is one of the priorities on the agenda of the CIS. We are not remitting it any other international organizations. We are all ready to talk about this and work out common solutions to reduce tensions in our region. We are ready to cooperate together, but with a certain understanding of some aspects. But only aspects," Maksim Ryzhenkov said.

The foreign ministers exchanged views on international issues and ways of deepening cooperation within the CIS. The current situation in the CIS and near abroad was on the agenda.

In his speech, Maksim Ryzhenkov stressed the need to strengthen multilateral cooperation between the CIS member states, which is of particular importance as the world is looking for common goals and approaches to solving global problems, building a multipolar world, creating a system of indivisible security, and strengthening equal cooperation.

Following the meeting, the foreign ministers signed a number of documents to promote cooperation in the CIS in foreign policy, cultural and humanitarian matters.

In addition to the already mentioned joint statements, the foreign ministers also adopted a statement on cooperation in physical culture and sport.

The foreign ministers approved a plan of CIS ministerial consultations next year. It has been supplemented with human rights issues in the context of cooperation in international organizations and topical issues of multilateral economic diplomacy. The CIS Foreign Ministers Council approved the regulations on the basic organizations of the CIS member states, including the training of personnel in the field of countering terrorism and extremism; training, professional retraining and advanced training of personnel in the field of the media industry and mass communications; on the development of the volunteer movement.

A number of important documents were approved for consideration at the meeting of the heads of state.

The next meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council will be held in Kazakhstan on 11 April 2025.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German.
