Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko took part in a training workshop for young diplomats, students and professors of higher education institutions at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BelTA learned from the CEC.
The seminar participants learned in detail about the history of the formation and development of the electoral system in Belarus, the activities of the CEC, as well as the main stages of the presidential election campaign. Igor Karpenko dwelt separately on the issues of international cooperation. “The CEC of Belarus cooperates with the central election bodies of the CIS member states, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB). Within Belarus’ presidency in the Advisory Council of Heads of CIS Election Bodies, the CEC of Belarus plans to organize joint work with colleagues and experts to study modern methods of training election organizers, legal education of the population, and the development of international standards of election observation given the importance of ensuring electoral sovereignty,” he said.
According to the CEC chairman, the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations assessed the quality of the work done to transform the electoral legislation in Belarus following the national referendum in 2022. According to its conclusion, the Belarusian election legislation fully complies with international standards of democratic elections.
