The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared details of the first day of the Belarusian delegation’s participation in the UN General Assembly in New York, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian delegation in New York is led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov.
“The visit began with the negotiations of the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states as part of a working breakfast. This year's event was organized by Kazakhstan. The ministers discussed a number of current issues of the organization's activities, regional security, upcoming high-level CSTO events,” the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
On the sidelines of the General Assembly, Maksim Ryzhenkov had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Russia and Kazakhstan. The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs held talks with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov to discuss the upcoming conference on Eurasian security in Minsk, slated for 31 October, and also the schedule of the future ministerial events.
Maksim Ryzhenkov and Kazakhstan Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu took stock of the progress made in the implementation of the agreements following the recent ministerial consultations in Minsk, clarified the schedule of bilateral contacts at various levels, and compared approaches within the framework of international organizations.
“A constructive dialogue with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mirjana Spoljaric Egger took place at the UN headquarters. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger confirmed the non-politicized nature of the organization's activity and put forward a number of humanitarian initiatives. The parties reached agreements on the continuation and systematization of bilateral cooperation,” the ministry said.
The meeting with Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin focused on pressing issues of Belarusian-Vatican interaction, the situation in the Eurasian region and peacekeeping initiatives.
Maksim Ryzhenkov also met with Uzbekistan Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov to discuss the implementation of the roadmap of agreements between the heads of state, intensification of industrial cooperation, cooperation within the SCO and with third countries.
Bilateral projects in non-sanctioned areas, the situation in Ukraine, energy, agriculture and sports were discussed at a meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó. Péter Szijjártó reiterated Hungary's principled position on the inadmissibility of discrimination against athletes on political grounds and the use of sport for political purposes. The parties also emphasized the convergence of positions on the counterproductiveness of illegal sanctions imposed by the West on a number of countries around the world.
“The meeting with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani focused on the prospects for cooperation between the parties in humanitarian areas, including education, healthcare and sports. The parties also touched upon cooperation in multilateral forums, including BRICS and SCO. During the meeting with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan the parties highlighted the prospects of increasing bilateral trade, schedule of bilateral visits, investment cooperation and high technology projects,” the press service said.
During the talks with Nicaragua's Foreign Minister Valdrack Jaentschke, the parties praised the dynamic development of the historically friendly Belarusian-Nicaraguan relations, similar positions on most international issues, confirmed mutual support in international organizations. The parties also discussed the implementation of the agreements reached following the visit of the Belarusian prime minister to Managua and new cooperation projects.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
