Belarus' MFA gets hold of pre-prepared EU statement on Belarus' election outcomes

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus has obtained a pre-prepared EU statement on the outcomes of Belarus' presidential election, MFA representative Anatoly Glaz told journalists at a briefing.

A group of agenda-driven MEPs filed a motion for a resolution of the European Parliament on the election in the Republic of Belarus which will be debated today. Already at this stage it is obvious that the document is a gross interference in the electoral processes of a sovereign state, has nothing to do with the real state of affairs and is designed to put pressure on the free expression of the will of Belarusian citizens. There can be no other comments in response to some European parliamentarians’ initiatives.

Belarus has repeatedly stated that all anti-Belarusian steps are pre-prepared and have nothing to do with the real situation in the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs got hold of a statement of the European External Action Service which it plans to issue after the election, which relies among other things on this draft resolution of the European Parliament. The election has just started, and they already condemn everything and not recognize the results.

The statement, for example, says that "restrictions on access of independent media to Belarus seriously undermine the legitimacy of the electoral process. In this regard, the necessary conditions for democratic elections were not met."

We see false statements from the very beginning. It is enough to note that we have accredited about 330 foreign journalists representing the world's leading media, including independent ones, from 23 countries, to cover the elections.

The statement contains insinuations regarding the invitation sent to the OSCE ODIHR to observe the elections.

We would like to remind everyone that the abovementioned invitation was sent to the bureau. And this was confirmed by the ODIHR itself on January 17. And they still have the opportunity to come.

But this is not of fundamental importance, since more than 450 international observers from 49 countries have already been accredited to observe the elections. Delegations of leading international organizations will be present at the elections, including the CIS IPA, the CSTO PA, the SCO and the CICA.

The statement is full of traditional clichés about the EU's support for democratic rights and fundamental freedoms. This is pure hypocrisy against the backdrop of the illegal sanctions that the European Union has imposed on ordinary Belarusian citizens. The EU countries are restricting their freedom of movement, financial, economic, civil, and other rights. We would like to remind once again that unilateral coercive measures directly violate international law and oppose the obligations of EU member states within the framework of universal and regional international organizations, such as the UN and the OSCE.

If such a statement by the EEAS is adopted, it will become further evidence of the planned interference by the European Union in the internal affairs of other countries and an attempt to cover up and legitimize its criminal actions against Belarus.

This is unacceptable for sovereign Belarus. Any such attempts will receive an appropriate response.

The EEAS statement that we have studied also indicates that European diplomacy is once again admitting its impotence against the backdrop of Belarus's readiness to find solutions to specific challenges, including, for example, cross-border issues.

Later it became known that members of the European Parliament had adopted resolution, in which they called on the countries of the European Union not to recognize the results of the presidential election in Belarus, as well as to continue expanding sanctions against Minsk. This is reported on the official website of the European Parliament.

It is known that the resolutions of the European Parliament on foreign policy issues are not binding for the EU institutions or member states.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry called the European Parliament resolution a gross interference in the electoral processes of a sovereign state. This decision has nothing to do with the real situation in the country and is designed to put pressure on the free will of the Belarusian citizens.

We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German.
