Belarusian air defenses ‘can protect western CSTO states’

The Belarusian air defense system can protect western CSTO member states if necessary, BelTA learned from Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolai Bordyuzha.
“An air defense system evolves on the basis of the capabilities the state has. Belarus has always had quite high capabilities. The Belarusian defense industry is most advanced primarily thanks to efforts of the country’s leadership. Capabilities of the Russian Federation are also utilized. In combination they have produced a very reliable system that can, if necessary, defend the air space of Belarus as an outpost of the CSTO member states on the west,” noted Nikolai Bordyuzha.
In his words, such systems are being set up in Central Asia, in Caucasus. “It is the essence of CSTO efforts: the creation of systems to enable complete stability and security of our states. Efforts are put into air defenses, ground collective forces, the counteraction of information attacks, several other areas, including counterdrug efforts, counteraction of organized crime groups that specialize in illegal migration. Everywhere we set up collective mechanisms that allow us to speak about the possibility of ensuring stability in our countries through collective efforts. The air defenses in Eastern Europe, the Belarusian-Russian air defense system are some of the examples of such efforts,” said Nikolai Bordyuzha.
