CIS railway administrations told to work on transit appeal

         The railway administrations of the Commonwealth of Independent States should put efforts into increasing the appeal of transit transportation, BelTA qouted Piotr Kucherenko, Chairman of the Directorate of the CIS Railway Transport Council, from the conference that gathered representatives of railway administrations of the CIS member states in Vitebsk.
          The main task that the CIS railway administrations are supposed to accomplish is the improvement of the effectiveness of rolling stock usage on the 1520mm gauge track and the improvement of the appeal of transit transportation for the sake of transporting more cargoes. The official underlined that the CIS railway administrations are connected by the same technologies, the same technical requirements, therefore, despite some political considerations they continue tight cooperation. A number of issues will have to be addressed at the Vitebsk conference. The conference of heads of railway administrations of the CIS member states in Vitebsk, Belarus, has gathered over 50 delegates from Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Estonia.
