The 2013 LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships concluded in Denmark’s Herning. On the final day of the competition Belarus’ Alexandra Gerasimenya and Yevgeny Tsurkin clinched a bronze medal each to bring the overall number of medals won by Belarus to four.
Alexandra Gerasimenya entered the final of the women’s 50m freestyle to clock 23.83 seconds which brought her bronze. Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands won the event while silver went to Sweden’s Sarah Sjoestroem. Earlier Gerasimenya had bagged 100m freestyle bronze. In the men’s 50m butterfly Yevgeny Tsurkin won bronze, the first medal at the tournament, setting a new record of Belarus. Ukraine’s Andrei Govorov became champion in this event while Germany’s Steffen Deibler had to settle for silver. Earlier another Belarusian Paval Sankovich claimed bronze in the 50m backstroke.
Belarus, with four gold medals, is 19th in the medal tally.
