Belarus President: Belarus is determined to step up cooperation with Ecuador

Belarus is determined to step up cooperation with Ecuador, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with President of Ecuador Rafael Correa Delgado.
Alexander Lukashenko pointed to Belarus’ great interest in ramping up cooperation with Latin America, first of all, with the countries that have the closest and most friendly relations with Belarus, like Ecuador and Venezuela:
“We hope that we will continue to have great relations; we also rely on you to help us fulfill our potential in Latin America.
Our countries have many things in common, which will facilitate Belarus’ advancement in the region. Belarus and Ecuador have similar views on the international agenda and a similar stance at the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement and other organizations. The two countries have the same understanding of what is going on in the world and seek to make the world multipolar.
We do have a trade turnover of about 20 million USD, but this is far from the figure that would reflect our true potential. Today we need to identify three to four specific cooperation areas to build on our trade and economic relations.”
In turn, Rafael Correa Delgado said Belarus and Latin America should become closer to each other. The Ecuador President said: “You are absolutely right that we truly need to bring Belarus closer to Latin America and respectively Latin America closer to Belarus”.
“Where I came from people know nearly nothing about Belarus and the role your nation has played in the history of the mankind,” noted Rafael Correa. “The sacrifices made by the Belarusian nation helped defeat fascism. And certainly it must be known in Latin America”
