Belarus urges UN to step up efforts to help combat cybercrime

        Belarus has urged the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to increase technical and consultative aid to help countries combat new forms of cross-border crime, like cybercrime and illegal trade in cultural property, Deputy Head of the Global Politics and Humanitarian Cooperation Department of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Irina Velichko said during the discussion of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. The Belarusian diplomat welcomed efficient cooperation with the UNODC in the fight against human trafficking. According to Irina Velichko, the resolution Belarus will propose for consideration to the 68th session of the General Assembly aims to encourage the international community to intensify efforts to fight trafficking in human beings around the world. Belarus’ representative noted that trafficking in human organs, tissues and cells is getting increasingly widespread.
      In this connection Irina Velichko suggested that the Untied Nations develop a document to combat this crime. Presiding in the CIS this year Belarus informed the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking about the joint efforts of the CIS member states to fight terrorism, narcotic drugs and crime.
