Ambassador: Belarus, Zimbabwe switch to full-scale partnership

Belarus and Zimbabwe are moving to a new level of interaction, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to South Africa and Zimbabwe Aleksandr Sidoruk as he commented on the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Zimbabwe, BelTA has learned.

“We have a comprehensive approach to cooperation with South Africa in general. It is clear that Zimbabwe is a landlocked country, deliveries there require the use of major seaports, first of all, in Mozambique and, secondly, on the east coast of South Africa. Some goods however can be delivered via the Atlantic, through the Namibian port of Walvis Bay or Cape Town, one of the largest ports in Africa in general, including the Republic of South Africa," said Aleksandr Sidoruk.

“I would call the main result of the visit the transition to a new level of interaction between Belarus and Zimbabwe,” the ambassador added. “We are now moving from pinpoint cooperation in a few areas, even if very important, to a full-scale comprehensive partnership after all the agreements we have reached. The talks and business events showed mutual interest and helped us all identify further practical steps in a number of areas.
