Belarus’ harvest reaches 6.7m tonnes of grain

6.7 million tonnes of grain has been threshed in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of early 22 August, grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize, buckwheat and millet) were harvested from 85.2% of the planned area (1.812 million hectares). Harvesting was completed on 99.9% of the area (346,000 hectares) in Brest Oblast, 71.4% (253,600 hectares) in Vitebsk Oblast, 87.7% (298,900 hectares) in Gomel Oblast, 84.1% (256,700 hectares) in Grodno Oblast, 87.1% (390,700 hectares) in Minsk Oblast, and 80.5% (266,800 hectares) in Mogilev Oblast.

Belarus threshed 6.779 million tonnes of grain, with the average yield at 37.4 centners per hectare. Last year the average yield at this stage of harvesting was lower, 30.7 centners per hectare.

Winter rapeseed to be used as grain was harvested from 302,200 hectares of land (98.1% of the designated area), with 803,600 tonnes threshed (the average yield stood at 26.6 centners per hectare).

Malt barley was harvested from 41,800 hectares of land (76.5% of the plan), with 159,300 tonnes threshed and the average yield at 38.1 centners per hectare (last year it was 32.2 centners per hectare).

Flax was cleared from the area of 43,700 hectares (98.7% of the designated area).
As part of the second cutting agricultural workers cut down grass on 867,900 hectares or 85% of the plan. Some 742,500 tonnes of hay (77.7% of the target), 11.928 million tonnes of haylage (88.8%), and 388,200 tonnes of silage (2.03%) were produced.
