External inflation affects prices in Belarus

External inflation affects prices in Belarus, and the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) is taking measures to control the situation, Vladimir Tsvirkov, head of the department of agriculture and forestry economy of the Research Institute of Economics of the Economy Ministry, said at a meeting of BelTA’s Expert Community project held on 22 June to discuss the world economic crisis and food shortage.

According to him, the rise in prices of goods in the domestic market is associated with external inflation. “MART is trying its best to control prices,” said Vladimir Tsvirkov. Measures are also taken to saturate the domestic market. In particular, export licensing has been introduced this year to prevent the uncontrolled export of onions, cabbage and apples.

The representative of the Research Institute of Economics of the Economy Ministry also drew attention to the necessity to substitute the import of protein raw materials from Ukraine. According to him, it is important to take into account both prices and logistics in this matter.
