Andreichenko: CIS Interparliamentary Assembly has proved its effectiveness

The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly has proved its relevance and effectiveness, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko told BelTA.

On 27 March 1992, the heads of the parliaments of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan gathered in Almaty to sign the agreement on the establishment of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

“This organization was conceived as a consultative body to discuss various political, social and economic problems, parliamentary cooperation and issues of common interest. For 30 years it has been successfully fulfilling its tasks, dynamically developing and adapting to changes. Over this time, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly has proved its relevance and effectiveness as an institution promoting parliamentarism based on the principles of equality and mutual respect,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

The speaker emphasized that Belarusian parliamentarians are actively using this platform to defend state interests, strengthen the country's international standing, maintain a constructive dialogue, discuss international cooperation and interaction in various fields.

“I am sure that the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly will come to play even a bigger role in uniting the CIS countries and addressing common problems, and the political significance of the organization will progressively increase,” Vladimir Andreichenko added.
