Sufficient throughput capacity for Belarusian Railways to ship fertilizers via alternative routes

The throughput capacity of Belarusian Railways will allow transshipping Belarusian potash fertilizers via alternative ports, BelTA learned from Belarusian Railways Head Vladimir Morozov. Lithuania previously stated it will stop the transit of Belarusian potash fertilizers in December. The Belarusian side is considering the transshipment of the fertilizers via alternative ports. Ports in Murmansk and Leningrad Oblast, Russia are some of the options under consideration. Vladimir Morozov stressed that Belarusian Railways has enough throughput capacity in all directions. “Taking into account possible changes in economic conditions we and partners, primarily those from the Russian Federation, are working on various options. Negotiations are in progress but I can already say that Belarusian Railways will not be the weak link in this chain,” he noted. The official also stated that participants of the latest session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council had passed a memorandum on advancing cooperation between the railways of Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan for shipments between China and Europe. “We have to increase the volume of transportation by improving the quality of services and increasing the opportunities. The memorandum was prepared as a new impulse for development. It provides for cooperation of not only railway administrations but also state institutions, customs services, border services for the sake of seamless transit,” he explained.
