Mirnyi and Tecau off to a good start at Wimbledon

Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Romania’s Horia Tecau have got off to a good start at Wimbledon. In the first round of the gentlemen’s doubles tournament the Belarusian-Romanian duo seeded seventh at the tournament have snatched a 4:6, 7:5, 6:3, 6:4 victory over the Austrian-German duo Philipp Oswald / Dominik Meffert. In the last 32 round Max Mirnyi and Horia Tecau take on the Australian tennis players Samuel Groth and Chris Guccione.

Belarus’ Olga Govortsova and Poland’s Alicja Rosolska succumbed to a 6:3, 2:6, 5:7 defeat against the international duo Darija Jurak (Croatia) / Tamarine Tanasugarn (Thailand) in the ladies doubles first round. On 25 June world number 73 Olga Govortsova was eliminated from the singles tournament in the first round after Romania’s Simona Halep.

Another Belarusian tennis player, world number two Victoria Azarenka pulled out of the Wimbledon tournament on 26 June due to knee injury which she picked up in the second set of the first-round match against Portugal’s Maria Joao Koehler.
