Belarus would like its application for observer status in BSPC reconsidered

Belarus would like its application for observer status in the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC) reconsidered. This position of the Belarusian Parliament was voiced by the Chairman of the Permanent Commission for International Affairs of the House of Representatives Nikolai Samoseiko at a meeting with Estonian and Latvian MPs. The Belarusian delegation was in Tallinn for the round-table meeting “Strengthening friendly relations between the Baltic countries and the Republic of Belarus". The Belarusian delegation member met with Estonian and Latvian MPs and held meetings in the City Hall. BSPC was formed in 1991 and brings together MPs from 11 countries: Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, and Russia. The main objective of BSPC is to develop cooperation with national and regional parliaments, other governmental and non-governmental organizations of the Baltic Sea region. The proposals to give Belarus a status of associative membership was made by the BSPC Standing Committee in 2009 when a delegation of Belarusian Parliament attended its meeting for the first time in the history of this organization.
