Tougher measures in Minsk airport to detect Ebola passengers

The National Airport Minsk has toughened measures to detect passengers infected with the Ebola virus, BelTA learned from Alexander Zhadan, deputy director of the medical service of the civil aviation authority.
“The airport’s medical service always operates in a toughened mode. But now we are working even harder. Special services track the passengers that have been to endemic areas and pass the information to either the airport’s medical service or the medical service of civil aviation,” said Alexander Zhadan.
Medics examine passengers right after their aircraft lands. “If they don’t complain about their health, the body temperature is normal and other signs of the fever are absent, we let them go,” explained the medic.
“If there are even slightest concerns, then the passenger is hospitalized and the relevant measures are taken”. Alexander Zhadan remarked that medics wear special protective suits as they contact with such patients. “The ambulance car is also properly equipped and the patient has to wear a mask,” he added.
Apart from that, medics work with aircraft crews in a bid to raise the awareness of pilots and flight attendants about ways to detect passengers, who are infected with Ebola. “We do our utmost,” stressed Alexander Zhadan.
