Second international passenger airline may be set up in Belarus

There are plans to set up the second international passenger airline in Belarus, Transport and Communications Minister of Belarus Anatoly Sivak told reporters after the opening of the Transport and Logistics expo.
“The company Grodnoavia was instructed to set up the second international passenger airline in Belarus as a competitor of Belavia,” the minister said. He noted that the ministry is currently mulling over the possibility to implement this project at the premises of Grodnoavia. Probably, Grodnoavia will later change its name.
Anatoly Sivak said: “Experts are currently working on a business plan and doing calculations. As soon as the results are shown to us, the business plan will be approved at the Transport and Communications Ministry.”
Belavia is the largest air carrier in Belarus by the number of passengers and cargoes it transports. The company operates 26 aircraft. At the beginning of 2014 the company’s fleet increased by five aircraft. In late January 2014 the company was reincorporated as a public joint-stock company. Based in the National Airport Minsk, Belavia offers regular flights to over 40 destinations in Europe and Asia. Belavia’s services meet the highest international safety standards.
