Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon praises the cooperation between the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The UN official made this statement as he met with CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha on the sidelines of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, reported the CSTO Spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov.
“The UN head hailed the cooperation between the two organizations, which successfully develops in crisis response and preventive diplomacy, the Afghan issue regulation, counteraction to terrorism and drugs trafficking, peace-keeping activities, humanitarian assistance and mitigation of emergency consequences. The parties touched upon the military and political situation in the world and separate regions. Special attention was attached to the need to coordinate the efforts in the fight against foreign terrorists in Central Asia,” the spokesman said.
The informal meeting of the CSTO foreign ministers discussed approaches to the agenda of the 69th UN GA session, coordinated the text of the resolution on UN-CSTO cooperation that will be adopted at this session.
