Belarus denies entry to 9 trucks carrying foodstuffs from Lithuania on 20 August

During one day alone, 20 August, Belarus’ phytosanitary service denied entry to nine vehicles carrying fruits and vegetables from the territory of Lithuania, BelTA quotes Alexei Bogdanov, Head of the Central Office for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry. “One truck did not have the phytosanitary certificate, the other trucks violated the established ISPM-12 standard,” Alexei Bogdanov said.
It was reported earlier that on 6 August Russia’s President Vladimir Putin signed the Executive Order On Special Economic Measures to Protect the Russian Federation’s Security. This document imposes immediate bans, for one year, on imports of certain agricultural products originating from the countries that supported anti-Russian sanctions. Belarus has stated repeatedly that it will not allow the re-export of banned products through its territory. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus Vladimir Grakun told reporters that Belarus’ phytosanitary service closely monitors the transit of products which import is banned by Russia. Thus, Belarus observes all the obligations it undertook during the talks with Russian partners.
