Belarus’ programmer wins Yandex.Algorithm 2014 contest


      The final round of Yandex.Algorithm 2014 took place in Berlin. Gennady Korotkevich from Gomel has won the contest for the second time consecutive, BelTA qoutes the press service of the company Yandex. Gennady Korotkevich was the only Belarusian to make it to the final round. The Belarusian solved four problems out of six and finished with 66 penalty minutes. Japan took the second prize solving four problems, but having 90 penalty minutes. Japan’s representative was followed by a programmer from China.
In 2013 Gennady Korotkevich left behind Russia’s Yevgeny Kapun and Taiwan’s Shi Bi Sun who came second and third respectively.
     Some 3,890 participants from 72 countries took part in the contest this year, including more than 160 participants from Belarus. Only 25 of the contestants made it to the final after the warm-up, qualification and three elimination-stage rounds. The challenges were prepared by an international team of experts from Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Poland and the United States.
