The border of Belarus and the EU is one of the safest, the head of the EU Delegation in Belarus Maira Mora said at the tenth meeting of working group on integrated border management as part of the EU Eastern Partnership Initiative, BelTA has learned.
“If we compare the flow of illegal migration from other areas, mostly southern ones, we have approximately 50,000 cases of illegal migration per year. On the Belarusian border these are about 1,700 cases,” said Maira Mora. In her view, a big credit for this goes to Belarusian border guards. The border has been strengthened through close cooperation with the European Union. Maira Mora noted that it was important not only to develop the infrastructure and purchase equipment but also train people. This is what the programs of cooperation with the EU are aimed for.
As part of the Eastern Partnership Initiative Belarus and Ukraine have already successfully implemented the program "SURKAP-1" with a budget of €1.3 million. This project aims to strengthen the green and water borders of Belarus and Ukraine.
