Days of Belarusian Cinema open in France’s Lyon

The Days of Belarusian Cinema opened in France’s Lyon on 20 March to mark the 70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation. The event gave start to the Days of Belarusian Culture, a big cultural forum organized by the Embassy of Belarus in France.

The forum will present the diversity of the Belarusian culture abroad and will last until September. The Days opened with a screening of In the Fog based on the novel by the famous Belarusian writer Vasil Bykov. The movie was awarded FIPRESCI, the top Cannes prize of the International Federation of Film Critics, at the 65th Film Festival in Cannes. The program of the Days also includes the screenings of Belarusian films Traces of the Apostles and Tufelki (Shoes). In 2013 Belarus’ Tufelki won the top prizes of the Angel Film Awards of the 11th Monaco International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for the Oscar Awards 2014. The Days of Belarusian Cinema in Lyon will be accompanied by a presentation of an exhibition prepared by the state memorial complex Khatyn with the assistance of the Minsk region executive Committee.
