Belarus wins silver, bronze at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships

Belarusian heptathlete Andrei Kravchenko won silver, while his compatriot, runner Marina Arzamasova bagged bronze at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Poland’s Sopot. Andrei Kravchenko set a new national record by scoring 6,303 points and was second after American Ashton Eaton (6,632). Belgium’s Thomas Van der Plaetsen was third with 6,259 points. Belarus’ Marina Arzamasova finished in third in the women’s 800m clocking her personal best of 2:00.89. First in this event was Chanelle Price of the USA (2:00.09), while Poland’s Angelika Cichocka took second place (2:00.45).

All in all, eight Belarusians took part in the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. In the medal count Belarus is joint 21st on a par with Canada and China each of whom won one silver and one bronze medal. The U.S. topped the medal tally with 12 medals (8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze), while Russia was second with five medals (3, 2, 0). Ethiopia also won five medals but was third (2, 2, 1).
