Revision for Belarus-EU relations suggested

Belarus and the European Union should revise approaches in their relations and determine their strategy. The opinion was voiced by Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei in an interview with the news agency BNS. The press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry quoted Vladimir Makei as saying: “I think we should stop slinging empty accusations at each other. Instead we should promote a policy based on dialogue and productive interaction”.
In his words, the sides should clearly determine what is important for Europe and what is important for Belarus. “We have never said we are ready to become a European Union member the next day we get the offer although nobody can rule it out in the long term. We have always said we want normal relations with the European Union. Forcing us into the European Union membership is a bad idea. We would like to build trade, economic, humanitarian relations, make our own contribution to the general European security and little by little people will feel the attractiveness of the European Union,” said the Belarusian Foreign Minister.
