Belarus elected to OPCW Executive Council


        The Republic of Belarus was unanimously elected to the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) on behalf of the Group of Eastern European States for a term of two years. The voting took place at the 18th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in the Hague. The session was attended by the Belarusian delegation headed by First Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Mikhnevich. Membership in the OPCW Executive Council, which is the main governing body of the organization, will help Belarus make a greater contribution to joint efforts to implement the strategic objectives and priorities of the OPCW. Belarus will be able to take a more active part in decision making for the efficient operation of the organization, to make the most of the country’s industrial, technological, scientific and personnel potential to maintain international peace and security, to make practical contribution to the development of international cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of chemistry.
