International sambo tournament kicks off in Minsk

The 29th edition of the International Sambo Tournament for the Prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus has kicked off in the Palace of Sports in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Taking part in the competition are athletes from nine countries: Belarus, Armenia, Bulgaria, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Belarus will be represented by the leaders of the national team: two-time world champion Daniela Zhdan, Maryia Kandratsyeva and Anfisa Kapayeva, winners of major international competitions Aliaksandr Kruhlik, Yauhen Riabikau and many others. The Russian team brought a very strong lineup, including world and European champions.

The participants of the competition will compete for 21 sets of medals (7 each in men's sport sambo, women's sport sambo and men's combat sambo). A year ago, Belarusian athletes won 33 medals - 8 gold, 9 silver and 16 bronze ones.
