Belarus, Kaliningrad Oblast to increase trade to $500m using joint ventures

Belarus and Kaliningrad region are determined to increase trade up to $500 million in the next two or three years, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Piotr Prokopovich said following the 11th session of the Council for Long-Term Cooperation between Regions, Ministries and Government Agencies of Belarus and Kaliningrad region held in Kaliningrad.  “We have set tasks for the next years. One of them is to boost trade between Kaliningrad Oblast and Belarus. This year our trade expanded by 70% to reach $192 million. In two or three years the figure might reach $500 million. We will not only trade in goods and services, but also set up joint ventures in Kaliningrad Oblast and Belarus,” Piotr Prokopovich said.
The Vice-Premier noted that Belarus is interested in establishing an agrotown in Kaliningrad Oblast. “We have a very good experience in this field. We have created over 1,500 agrotowns by now. We are ready to do it here. However, this should be a joint decision,” he said.
