Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko presided over a meeting of the organizing committee for the national exposition at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, the UAE, BelTA has learned. According to the deputy prime minister, the national pavilion opens in a test mode on 28 September. "A few days after the opening ceremony, we will hold the Days of Vitebsk Oblast, then the city of Minsk and Minsk Oblast. Our two major concerns – Belgospishcheprom food industry concern and Belneftekhim oil industry concern - will showcase their economic potential too,” he stated. “We are also actively preparing for the National Day of Belarus, which is scheduled for 22 November and which will incorporate a Belarusian investment forum, a joint business forum with the business community of the UAE.
Expo 2020 will be hosted by Dubai and will be the first world expo held in the region of Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The event will be running from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. The motto of the upcoming edition is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. So far, 192 countries have confirmed their participation in Expo 2020. The event is expected to draw 25 million visitors, with 70% of them not from the UAE.
