Belarusian women’s national basketball team overpowers Ukraine in U20 European Championship starter

The Belarusian women’s national basketball team overpowered the Ukrainian team in the first match of the U20 European Championship that kicked off in Turkey’s Samsun.

In the first game in group A manager Alexander Shimyakov’s side ousted Ukraine 65:58 (16:13, 19:11, 14:19, 16:15). Belarus’ Maria Popova was a top scorer with 17 points and 10 rebounds. 

 

Maria Popova was in the Belarusian selection to partake in the FIBA European Basketball Championship where Belarus finished fifth. On 5 July Belarus are set to meet Serbia which were thrashed by the Netherlands 43:75 on 4 July. On 6 July Belarus take on the Dutch opponents.

Three best teams from each of the four sections will move to the second group stage round in which eight quarterfinalists will be decided. The quarterfinals will take place on 12 July with the semifinals scheduled for 13 July. The last day of the competition, 14 July, will feature a match for bronze and a final.
