Dave Lewis to coach Belarus’ national ice hockey team

Canadian specialist Dave Lewis will coach the Belarusian national ice hockey team, the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation announced on 12 December.

It is expected that the signing of the contract and Dave Lewis’ first press conference will take place at the headquarters of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus on 15 December.

The 61-year-old made part of the coaching staff in the number of KHL clubs, including the Detroit Red Wings (1987-2006), the Boston Bruins (2006-2007), the Los Angeles Kings (2007-2008), the Carolina Hurricanes (2011-2014). He won three Stanley Cups with Detroit Red Wings (1997, 1998, 2002).

Dave Lewis joined the coaching staff of the Belarusian national team to assist Glen Hanlon at the 2009 World Championship and Mikhail Zakharov at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The Belarusian national ice hockey team is gearing up for the forthcoming Arosa Challenge slated for 19-20 December. Belarus will face Slovakia, Norway and Switzerland.
