Belarus considering floating $1bn worth of bonds in USA

Belarus is considering the possibility of floating $1 billion worth of bonds in the USA. The plans were announced by Belarusian Deputy Finance Minister Maxim Yermolovich in New York, BelTA has learned.
According to the official, investors from the United States of America have already bought some part of debut issues of Belarusian bonds and they now own quite a large share of these bonds. Next year Belarus is going to redeem part of its debut issues. “We are going to redeem $1 billion worth of bonds next year out of the $1.8 billion worth of bonds that we have sold abroad,” noted Maxim Yermolovich.
The Belarusian Deputy Finance Minister said he believes the quotation of government bonds by international rating agencies is important for Belarusian banks and companies. “The quotations are very interesting for us and therefore we would not like to lose presence on this market. We are ready to make an offer to American investors and carry out all the necessary procedures to float an issue of bonds on the American market. We haven’t done it before,” stated the Belarusian Deputy Finance Minister.
In his words, meetings with the largest American investors, who show a solid interest in this matter, have been planned.
