Bronze medals in wrestling for Belarus


       Two Belarusian freestyle wrestlers Vladislav Andreyev (57kg) and Ali Shabanov (70kg) won bronze medals at the 2014 FILA Wrestling World Championships which kicked off in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, BelTA has learned.
On his way to the podium Vladislav Andreyev defeated Zoheir El Ouarraqe of France 3-1, Andrei Dukov of Romania 2-0 and fell 0-4 to Olympics silver medalist and reigning European champion Vladimir Khinchegashvili of Georgia in the quarterfinal. The Belarusian athlete got a chance to compete in the consolation round and used this opportunity to grab bronze. The second bronze medal in the men’s 57kg went to Iran’s Hassan Rahimi. The champion title was claimed by a representative of Korea.
In the men’s 70kg Ali Shabanov reached the semifinal overcoming on his way Rostislav Pervachuk of Ukraine, Pedro Soto of Puerto Rico, and Nick Thomas Marable of the United States. The Belarusian athlete lost his semifinal bout to Russia’s Hetag Tsabolov 1-13, but after that clinched a confident victory over Cleopas Ncube of Canada in a match for the third place. The second bronze in the category was grabbed by Bekzod Abdurakhmonov of Uzbekistan. Gold was clinched by Russia’s Hetag Tsabolov.
2011 world champion Alexei Shemanov of Belarus (125kg) finished fifth. He won three first bouts with 4-0, 12-0 and 6-0 score respectively. In the semifinal Alexei Shemanov lost 1-8 to Taha Akgul of Turkey.
Representative of the Belarusian national team Omargadzhi Magomedov (86kg) finished 32nd in the total standings after losing his first contest against Ishtvan Veber of Hungary 2-6.
