The law enforcement agencies of Belarus and Lithuania maintain very close cooperation, Igor Yevseyev, the head of the interior department of the Vitebsk oblast Executive committee, said at a working meeting with representatives of the Police Commissariat of Utena Country of Lithuania, BelTA reports. “Over the past five years, the crime rate has dropped considerably in the border areas of the two states. We cooperate closely on citizenship and migration, search for persons hiding from justice, combating transnational criminal groups that use the territory of Belarus for transit to the European Union,” said Igor Yevseyev.
Following the meeting Igor Yevseyev and Chief of Police Commissariat of Utena County Vitautas Vajskunas signed a protocol on cooperation. It defines primary areas of exchange of information, experience, laws and regulations on the activities of interior bodies in public security. The parties undertake, in accordance with the international agreements, to provide mutual assistance in the suppression of crimes and to execute instructions on the provision of legal assistance at the earlier opportunity.
