President: Belarus will build relations with the new government in Ukraine supported by the people

Belarus hosted elections to the local councils of deputies. More than 77% of voters took part in the elections. 18 thousand 809 deputies have been elected. In four constituencies elections were not held. There were no districts where elections were invalid.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko also took part in the elections. The President answered questions from reporters, including those regarding the situation in Ukraine. Belarus will build relations with the new government in Ukraine, which will be support by the Ukrainian people, said the President:

"There are different people among those came to power in Ukraine I like some of them, but I do not like the others. No matter what my attitude towards them is, we need to build up relations with them, of course, if they stay in power, if they continue their political career – and this will be determined by the forthcoming presidential election and, I hope, the parliamentary elections in Ukraine. We will cooperate with those who will be supported by people.

This position was prompted by objective reasons. Ukraine is a neighboring state and the two countries cooperate closely in various fields. I have already said before that we had never interrupted relations with Ukraine and we don’t intend to."
