An officer of the special forces unit of the Belarusian Armed Forces will join the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) that helps maintain international peace and security.

The officer was dispatched to Lebanon in line with the rotation plan. He will serve as a staff officer and will be responsible for communication between the UN mission and commanders of the Armed Forces of Lebanon, as well as for maintaining a strategic dialogue with the donor countries and other stakeholders, the press service informed.

The decision to take part in the UN peacekeeping activities in Lebanon was passed in Belarus in 2009.
