Minsk’s Dinamo-BSUPC will kick off their campaign in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers for the sixth time, BelTA has learned.
In the first semifinal of Group 3 in Aktobe, Kazakhstan, the Belarusian champions will face Switzerland’s Servette from Geneva (kick-off at 10:00). The match will be refereed by Jelena Kumer from Croatia. If they defeat the Swiss side, the Minsk team will play on 7 August against the winner of the other semifinal between Breiðablik (Iceland) and Aktobe (Kazakhstan). The winners of the four groups will advance to the third qualifying round of the Champions League. The teams that finish second will continue their campaign in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. The clubs finishing third will compete in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup.
In the previous season, Belarus was represented in the Women's Champions League by Dinamo-BSUPC and Minsk. Neither team managed to reach the group stage, both exiting in the second qualifying round. The winner was Spain’s Barcelona, who routed French side Lyon 4-0 in the final.
Lyon holds the record for the most titles in the main continental club tournament with eight trophies. Barcelona and Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt have each won the Women’s Champions League four times. Two titles each belong to German clubs Turbine Potsdam and Wolfsburg, England’s Arsenal, and Sweden’s Umeå, while Duisburg has one title to their name.
