Belarus’ world number 15 Victoria Azarenka has completed her 2022 Indian Wells Masters run losing to Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina 3-6, 4-6 in the round of Last 32, BelTA has learned.
In the opener the former world number one saw off Australia’s world number 96 Astra Sharma 6-3, 7-5. Victoria Azarenka claimed Indian Wells titles in 2012 and 2016 and was a runner-up to Paula Badosa last season.
Belarus’ world number 3 Aryna Sabalenka lost to Italy’s world number 46 Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 in the second round. Belarus’ world number 59 Aliaksandra Sasnovich was defeated by world number 31 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 4-6. Aliaksandra Sasnovich proved stronger over Colombia’s world number 35 Camila Osorio in the opening match.
The tournament in Indian Wells will be over on 20 March.
