Belarus PM in favor of fair prices for energy resources in Eurasian Economic Union

Energy prices should be set for national companies just the way they are set for partners in the Eurasian Economic Union. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the relevant statement after a session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan, Armenia on 19 November, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko said: “Experts continue working. It is one of the most complicated problems. Belarus' stance is absolutely understandable. The methods used to set energy prices for a national manufacturer should be the same as the methods for partners in the Eurasian Economic Union. Our stance does not change. We defend it together with colleagues. It is a complicated document, a complicated agreement. An antimonopoly agency regulates pricing practices in supplier countries while the selling price is set by the owner of the gas transportation system. This is why, in our opinion, prices for the countries that consume natural gas should be formed according to the methods that are used to set prices for domestic consumers.”

In his opinion, only this approach will enable conditions for equal competition for commercial entities, which heavily rely on energy resources. “But there is nothing dramatic about it. Work is in progress on reconciling the views. The presidents have given the relevant instructions. This matter is stipulated by the main directions of Eurasian integration for the period till 2025,” the official said.
