Gomel to host conference on euro-regional cooperation

       Representatives from eight countries participated in the international conference on euro-regional cooperation in Gomel, Marina Filonova, the chief advisor to the Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Council, said. Among them were representatives of the government bodies, international and public organizations of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, the United States, Italy and Germany, all Belarusian euro-regions: Belovezhskaya Pushcha, Boug,  Dnieper, Neman, Lake District. Attending the conference was a delegation of the Embassy of the United States led by US Charge d’Affaires in the Republic of Belarus Ethan Goldrich. 
       The event was organized within the framework of the international technical assistance project “Promotion of regional development within the framework of the euro-regions.” “The aim of the project is to contribute to regional development through the use of the capabilities and experience of cross-border cooperation in solving socio-economic problems,” said Marina Filonova. The project was carried out with the assistance of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee and the financial support of Eurasia Foundation.
       The conference discussed several issues, including the status and implementation of the project to promote regional cooperation, cooperation priorities and project practices, and develop new initiatives within the framework of promising cross-border programs.
