Belarus hopes for IAEA assistance in the construction of its first nuclear power plant, BelTA reports with reference to the UN News Centre.
Speaking at a meeting of the UN General Assembly devoted to the discussion of the report of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the UN Yevgeni Lazarev said that Belarus country intended to make greater use of the IAEA services during the construction of its first nuclear power plant.
"The annual IAEA report reflected the fact that Belarus in 2013 became the second country in the last three decades to begin construction of its first nuclear power plant. We would like to emphasize our strong commitment to international norms and standards, the priority of nuclear safety, as well as openness and readiness for dialogue with interested countries and international organizations in the implementation of the project of construction of NPP "- said Yevgeni Lazarev.
