Belarus sends humanitarian aid to Belgrade

Belarus’ Il-76 aircraft with humanitarian aid has landed in Belgrade, we learnt from Spokesman for the Emergencies Ministry Vitaly Novitsky.
The aid for Belgrade includes motor pumps, diesel power plants, electric generators, frame tents, blankets, food. In the near future the aid will be handed to the country’s flooded population.
“Serbia has called for international help due to the natural calamity. Following the instructions of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, two Mi-8 emergency helicopters and four rescue teams headed for Serbia on 18 May,” Vitaly Novistky said. In his words, Belarusian specialists have all necessary equipment to provide help in flooded areas.
Strong floods in Serbia due to heavy rains affected seven municipalities in six regions of the country. Floods led to blocked roads, destroyed water supply networks and the local industry out of work. According to the experts’ forecasts, the water level in the Velika Morava River and its numerous tributaries will stay above the danger point in the coming week.
