Belarus celebrates the Victory Day

Traditionally, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk in memory of the nation’s deed during the Great Patriotic War. Flowers and wreaths from top officials, heads of government agencies, representatives of public associations, veterans, the clergy, the diplomatic corps, and the CIS Executive Committee were also laid at the pedestal of the monument.

Speaking at the ceremony, then President, among other things, turned to the situation in Ukraine and said it was necessary to stop the tragic events in Ukraine at whatever cost. He also stressed that today some politicians bury the lessons of history in oblivion, try to downgrade the role of the Soviet people in the Victory over the Nazis, and encourage the rebirth of the Nazism.
