Director Costa Fam was awarded one of the main prizes at the San Diego Jewish Film Festival for Shoes (Tufelki), a short film created with the participation of Belarusian producers. The San Diego Film Festival is one of the oldest Jewish festivals in the world. It features high-quality works and a strict jury consisting of academicians, journalists, and public figures. The Shoes movie is a joint production by Belarus, Russia, Poland, the USA, Czechia, and France. The film is dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust victims and tells the story of someone buying a pair of shoes in a shop, and then you see the ending of their lives in Auschwitz. The director’s approach focuses on showing only legs throughout the film accompanied by music.
Shoes has already participated in more than 30 international festivals and screenings and became winner in a number of them. The film has been invited to join the collection of the Yad Vashem memorial in Israel (Jerusalem) together with movies by the famous modern directors Steven Spielberg, Roman Polanski, and Roberto Benigni.
