Rumas urges removing barriers for commodity flow in Eurasian Economic Union

Belarus should decide what exemptions and restrictions that are effective in the Customs Union should be eliminated by the time the Eurasian Economic Union becomes operational. First of all, these are restrictions on the movement of goods, member of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Sergei Rumas said at a session of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers. Sergei Rumas deems it necessary to eliminate restrictions on the movement of goods. “I suggest sticking to the following principle: exemptions, restrictions and barriers should be eliminated by 1 January 2015 if they hamper the free movement of goods, because this field of integration is formalized by certain agreements and follows unified rules,” he said. In his view, this should be followed by elimination of exemptions and restrictions on the free trade in services, capital and workforce. Sergei Rumas believes that a number of fundamental principles should be formalized by the Eurasian Economic Union draft agreement.
